StudioKY long earring compositeOur next scheduled market  is  Saturday 14th December at Sobels Winery in the Hunter valley. 5 Halls Rd, Pokolbin 9-3 weather permitting. These markets features hand crafted goods from local artisans. StudioKY will be featuring art Jewelry, accessories, homewares and sculpture. We have specially made Xmas bowls, coasters and charms in resin for this market.

StudioKY is for lovers of pattern and decorative form. We mainly make art jewelry and homewares. Small sculptures celebrate a love of form, of history or whimsy..

We, Kay and Yvonne Pittelkow, design and handcraft modern art jewellery. What makes us different is that our jewelery is unique. We design and handcraft most of the pieces - even our beads are hand rolled.

Colour and unique design are our specialty. As a branch of applied art we fit most comfortably into Decorative and Pattern movement.

Lately we are diversifying and designing and making objects for the home (Objects d' Maison). Kay went through a phase of producing mini sculptures / collectible figurines that can be stand alone, brooches or pendants. Some customers purchased a group for an installation piece and other commissioned a series for club trophies. However, small trays and bowls, bud vases, tea candle covers, coasters and mobile phone holders are also making an appearance - often in resin featuring image transference. Kay is handcarving limestone and adding panels of colour. The result is a patio table sculpture - often they are also practical - LED light, candle holder.

Yvonne has added a range of small paintings - she specialises in watercolour on Yuppo paper and these paintings are special!

Checking out "What's New" is the best place to find what Kay is working on. Checking out "Market Dates" is the best place to find when we will be next near you.

Kay is re-discovering sculpture and working on incorporating polymer clay or resin: Yvonne is currently exploring mokume gane and developing beautiful intricate and organic veneers which is applying to bowls, vases, and larger jewelry pieces.

Because we do all the design and manufacturing ourselves we can change fittings or sizes or colours. You just have to ask us at StudioKY.

Commissions form a significant part of Kay's sales. There is no obligation to buy a commissioned piece although we appreciate a quick decision.  Making to a customer's brief is often challenging - it can take you out of your comfort zone but it can also produce a new and exciting direction.

SHOWS, FAIRS

This year, 2019, we have entered a number of local festivals - just for the fun of it and to participate in our local communities.

Our first fair was the Morisset Agricultural Show held on Saturday and Sunday the 9th and 10th of February. Yvonne and I both entered pieces into the jewellery category and Kay entered 3 hand built pottery sculptures. Kay won a First and Third place in the pottery category and a Third in the jewelry with a colourful pinched petal necklace. (You can see an images of the pieces in "Whats New".)

Kay is also entered the Dobell Festival of Art and Craft held in Wangi Wangi from the evening of the 3rd May to 4:00 pm on the 5th May 2019. She won "highly commended" for her ceramic 4-faced totem and for her twisted mokume gane necklace. The level of entries were very high, prizes only awarded for first place and very few commended places awarded. We think it was the uniqueness of the pieces that caught the judge's attention. See "What's new" for images.

STUDIO

My workspace is in Wangi Wangi NSW. You are welcome to contact me to arrange a private viewing. Or phone 0428062902. Particularly useful if you want to match a certain fabric or design or commission a piece although computer images can achieve a good result.

Note that I visit the European markets from late May until mid August so viewings will not be possible during these times.

TERRE SAUVAGE IN BELVES, FRANCE

Shop window 200x160 TS shop composite 200x160Belvès is a very pretty medieval town in southwestern France. I always think of it as being in the Dordogne but recently it became part of a new commune, Pays-de- Belvès. The closest city is Bordeau.

A selection of my jewelry and "objects de maison" reside in this lovely shop.

For the 2109 season I am designing a few reverse necklaces: A gorgeous type of accessory that is both funky and unexpected and, since an exposed back is a summer fashion for my friend and Terre Sauvage's owner, Ondine, it's only appropriate that the reverse necklace is included in my collection. Dragonflies and butterflies will be a feature of some of these necklaces and will sit between the wearer's shoulder blades. The necklace will be adjustable as well as reversible. Here is the uncured cane - the "out of focus" look will not be present in the finished piece and is due to my impatience. butterfly green cane x200

Ondine has spent a lot of time and energy in getting together a global collection they have named ZIMWABI -SABI. Wabi sabi is a blend of two concepts: wabi is about living in tune with nature and it’s focused on the art of simplicity. Sabi is about beauty and natural cycles of growth and death. When combined, wabi and sabi unite to create a feeling of serenity and harmony. The original design concept came from an Italian fashion designer, the manufacturing expertise in handling recycled or sustainable materials came from Zimbabwean artisans and Ondine has supplied much of the organizing muscle. I will design some simple pendants featuring patterns found in the earth's cycle - from emergence to decay. Many of the pendants are on my blog - What's new June 2019.

Note that this shop opens for "the Season". You can contact them through their facebook page.
